QLC 2007: a success!

Dear Friends,

Our gathering is now behind us, but we can keep its spirit alive by sharing our remembrances and planning for future gatherings. Ahavia and Shelley spoke during the conference about the possibility of creating a Google or Yahoo! group for interested folks... although there are a few among us who are not internet-enabled. Do Friends have thoughts about that?

In other news, there's a great site that can serve as a jumping off point for further exploration of the Quaker Blogosphere; if you haven't checked it out already, see Martin Kelley and Friends' QuakerQuaker.org

I would like more information on Quakerism and their acceptance of being a lesbian. I stumbled upon the religion doing a paper for class on gay marriage and I have a personal interest in this due to being kicked out of my own church

kaypurity, there's good information about Quakers and our history and beliefs at quaker.org, and the site mentioned at the end of the above post is a great compilation of Quaker blogs.

The quaker.org site can also help you find a Meeting near you, which is probably the best way to get a feel for the Spirit of your local Quaker community. Many unprogrammed Quaker Meetings in the US are welcoming of sexual minority folks, but it's best to think of it as a Meeting by Meeting issue.

I'm very sorry to hear that your religious community kicked you out... their loss! Many people come to Quakerism as spiritual refugees of one sort or another.
